    Synthesis of publications

The detailed list of publications can be found at the end of this CV:

    • 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals
92 articles in international journals, published
        8 national articles
    • 180 papers at congresses with acts

My research is currently taking place at the AZM Center for Research in Biotechnology and Applications, of which I am the director. Composed of 54 Teacher-Researchers including 14 Professors, this research center was created by the Doctoral School in Science and Technology. It is the result of a project that I had the honor to carry, funded by the AZM association and SAADE and the Lebanese University, up to two million dollars.

Four research laboratories are housed in this center:
    • the physics laboratory
    • the microbiology laboratory
    • the biotechnology laboratory
    • the LASTRE laboratory (Laboratory of Electronic Systems, Telecommunications and Networks)

In the LASTRE laboratory, I am also responsible for the Biomedical research axis of the Electronic Systems team. The main axes of this laboratory are:
    • medical robotics
    • electronic systems
    • signal and image processing
    • telecommunications and networks

My research activities focus mainly on multidisciplinarity; in the field of biomedical instrumentation, as well as in the treatment of physiological signals and medical instrumentation.

I am particularly active in a collaborative context with French universities including:

    • the University of Technology of Troyes – Detection and Classification (collaboration with Prof. Jacques Duchêne)
    • the Compiègne University of Technology – Classification in uterine EMG signals (Prof. Catherine Marque)
    • the Universities of Rouen-Le Havre – Detection of ruptures in signals for operational safety (Prof. Dimitri Lefebvre)
    • the University Paris Est Créteil (UPEC) – Biometrics and ECG signal compression (Prof. Amine Nait-Ali)
    • the University of Rennes 1 – Neurology (Prof. Fabrice Wendling), ECG signal processing and imaging (Profs. Guy Carrault and Olivier Deforges)
    • the University of Lille 1 – Robotics and intelligent vehicles (Prof. Maan Badaoui Najjar)

These collaborations are mainly carried out through cotutelle theses.

    Theme of main research

My research focuses on the detection and classification aspect of non-stationary signals. The objective is to propose adaptive detection algorithms in the case of lack of knowledge of the parameters of the events to be detected in uterine EMG signals.

One of the variants consists in using the wavelet-type multi-resolution approaches in the sequential detection phases. Fast algorithms have also been proposed.

This research work is currently reinforced thanks to the many co-supervised theses, particularly in the context of collaboration with UTC. A comparative study will soon be carried out, requiring acquisition campaigns, both in France and in Lebanon. The goal is to model and predict the threats of preterm birth.

In the same context of biomedical research, I am interested in the study and modeling of other types of signals such as ECG, in collaboration with the University Paris-Créteil (UPEC) (Prof. Amine Nait-Ali), especially on biometric applications.

The treatment of parsimonious images for applications on MRI (accelerated reconstruction) is another area of research with INSA Lyon (Prof. Rémy Prost).

Recently, a new thesis was launched, in collaboration with the Laboratory LTSI (Rennes 1, Profs. Guy Carrault and Alfredo Hernandez) for the modeling of the ECG and the analysis of cardiac variability.

In recent years, I have been invited by several universities as a visiting professor or for laboratory visits:

    Paris Est-Créteil (Prof. Amine Nait-Ali)
    Compiègne (Prof. Catherine Marque)
    Troyes (Prof. Jacques Duchêne)
Free University of Brussels (Olivier Debeir)
Surrey University – UK (Prof. David Ewins)
Rennes 1 (Prof. Gais El Zein, Prof. Guy Carrault)
    Le Havre (Prof. Dimitri Lefebvre)
    Roanne (Prof. Mohamad Badaoui)
    Rouen (Prof. Ghaleb Hoblos)
    UPEC (Prof. Samer Mohammed)
    Nantes (Prof. Safwan Asaad)
